John Gardner Chapter: October 2010 Meeting Minutes

President John Hacunda called the meeting to order at 1:30pm October 3, 2010.

Introduction of members and guests:

John Hacunda (pres.), John Symons (vice pres.), Bill Armitage (treas.), Phil Behney (sec.), Sandy D’Esopo, Rob Pittaway, Andy Strode, George Spragg, and Genevieve Favre.

Minutes

Minutes from September 12, 2010 were approved as distributed.
Treasurer’s Report
Treasurer’s report was read by Bill Armitage (balance of 2,496.31) and approved by the membership.

Old Business

John Hacunda has posted the sale of the “Macgregor” Canoe on our web site. Phil Behney and Bill Armitage have sent an ad to “MAIB” along with a subscription to the magazine for the club.

John Symons’ 1942 “Thompson” is progressing nicely.

Discussion concerning the restoration of the “Chaisson” dory continues.

Nominations: John nominated Rob Pittaway for the opening of vice president.

New Business

The proposed project regarding the integration of boat building classes with UConn's American Studies and Maritime studies was discussed and volunteers sought. Bill Armitage has offered to consider volunteering his time and expertise and suggested a meeting with interested parties be set up. Several members offered their support to Bill.

Dues will be collected beginning next meeting and on to January.

November 6th JGTSCA Monthly Meeting at 1:30, McClave, Philbrick & Giblin (MP&G) boatyard in Mystic, CT with tour of Amorita, hosted by Bruce Cresser.

Dec 5th JGTSCA Monthly Meeting at 1:30, Custom House Maritime Museum, New London, CT with a presentation of Currach films and refreshments hosted by Rob Pittaway
