John Gardner Chapter: November 2009 Meeting Minutes
The John Gardner Chapter of the Traditional Small Craft Association.
Minutes for the November 1, 2009 membership meeting of the
John Gardner Chapter of the TSCA.
President Russell Smith called the meeting to order at 1:48
PM at the Avery Point Boathouse. In attendance were members
Rob Pittaway, Phil Behney, George Spragg, Andy Strode, Wil
Iturriino, John Hacunda and Bill Armitage.
The secretary’s report was presented by President
Smith and approved as distributed.
Treasurer Armitage distributed report for November. The balance
as of Nov. 1, 2009 was $2250.85 with dues income of $150 from
members and expenses of $700 as a donation to Russell Smith
for the benefit of Ledyard Community Rowing leaving a balance
of $2,250.85. Motion to accept was made and approved.
The following nominations were made for the upcoming elections:
Phil Behney for Vice-President
John Symons for Secretary

A reminder that 2010 membership dues of $15 are due.
Another of the Avery point dories was converted to two rowing
$200 approved for purchase of materials for addition of a
safety railing to the deck and repairs to the front steps.
George Spragg and Andy Strode volunteered to do the work.
Russell Smith reported on the Head of the Weir race in which
he participated with the Ledyard Community Boating crew on
October 31. Conditions were quite windy, but the young crew
was able to complete the course and finish in first place
with a time of 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Russell thanked the JGTSCA for its donation to the Ledyard
Community Boating program.
The Ledyard Community Boating crew plans on rowing in the
Icebreaker at Hull, MA at the end of November.
Russell Smith proposed sending a letter to Jeff Marshall
of Mystic Shipyard East to thank him for providing an area
for storage of club equipment and dories which allows our
members to have boating access to the Mystic River. Russ suggested
we offer to help with maintenance of the garage where club
equipment is currently stored. Russell's motion was approved
and he will draft a letter.
There was discussion of stenciling the club's website address
on our fleet of dories to help promote awareness of our activities.
