Introduction of Members

1. Minutes for the June 06, 2015 meeting

The Minutes for the 06/05/2015 Meeting, as published on the JGTSCA Website, were unanimously adopted.

2. Treasurer’s Report

Treasurer John Symons reported that the JGTSCA bank balance was $4,236.36 as of 7/3/2015. Income for the month was $403.00 from 4 single memberships, a donation of $50.00, and Tag Sale receipts of $293.00. Expenses were $257.97 stemming from Trailer repairs $116.96, Buff paint $66.38, Sign paint 22.05, and an air pump for the boat rollers of $52.58. The Treasurer’s Report was unanimously accepted.

3. Old Business

a. Membership report.

New members Jim Hill (Tolland) and Greg Stan (Norwalk) were enrolled at the WoodenBoat Show.

b. NINA, Club building project.

The hull is complete, as are the spars. A sail and the standing and running rigging are needed. NINA’s maiden voyage took place at the WoodenBoat Show.

c. Fleet Report and Club Fleet Maintenance.

Phil Behney reported that two JGTSCA dories were brought to the WoodenBoat Show where they were quite popular. Thanks go to Andy Strode and Jim Clark for able management of the dories at the show.
The two other JGTSCA dories still need their annual maintenance.

d. Shop Queue

The queue is: the two JGTSCA dories, then John Symons, to be followed by Phil Behney.

e. Speaker for the Holiday Dinner

Rob Pittaway reported that Susan Tamulevich, Director of the New London Maritime Society, had told him that she would address the December Meeting. Ellie Czarnowski will formally invite her to do so.

4. New Business

a. JGTSCA Regatta

The regatta is scheduled for 7/19 and will begin at 10am. Activities will take place at the UCONN Avery Point campus beach if it is available. If not, then in-water activities will occur off the Bayberry launch ramp. There will be a potluck lunch at the Club House around 12 noon, but the grills will be available all day. Informality is the key to the day. Ellie Czarnowski and George Spragg have said that they will bring their boats.

5. AOB:

a. Tag sale

Rob Pittaway questioned if the JGTSCA should have a tag sale next year. He cited the amount of effort involved vs the meagre cash returns this year. Bill Armitage said that the sale gave the club something to do together. Perhaps the event could be held every other year.

b. Replacement Dory

Phil Behney said that the #1 dory should be replaced by a new dory. If so, the new dory would be the club’s next “build”.
Phil made a motion to the effect that the #1 dory be maintained for use this year using only paint and materials already on hand in the shop. No out of pocket expense will be incurred. The motion was passed unanimously.

c. SawStop table saw

After discussion at the Business Meetings of both this month and last, members reiterated their wish that Sandy D’Esopo approach SawStop for a donation of a contractor version of their SawStop table saw. The letter of application to SawStop should go out under the JGTSCA letterhead and must be approved by the membership.

d. Oar Leathering

Because many of the Club owned oars need to be leathered, Rob Pittaway was requested to lead an oar leathering workshop. He was authorized to purchase suitable leather.

e. 2015 Small Craft Workshop report

Bill Rutherford gave a report on the 2015 Small Craft Workshop held in conjunction with this year’s WoodenBoat Show. For Bill’s full report, go to the newsletter section of the JGTSCA website:
