John Gardner Chapter: December 2, 2018 Meeting Minutes
New London Maritime Society Custom House,
150 Bank Street, New London, Connecticut
Member Rob Pittaway opened the meeting at 12:50
pm, Sunday, December 1st, 2018 with a hands-on demonstration
of original New London Ledge Light House providing one long-red
& three short-white flashes through a Fresnel lens, floating
Members Present: Rob Pittaway, Dane A. Rochelle,
Bill Rutherford, Ellie Czarnowski, David Tang, Larry Magee,
Trudy Alduk, Dan Nelson, Peter Vermilya, Andy Strode, Judy
Strode, Brian Cooper, Bill Armitage, John Symons, John Hacunda
President Dane A. Rochelle formally called the meeting to
order at 12:52 pm, proposing a slate of candidates for new
officers beginning January 1st, 2019, as follows:
President: Bill Rutherford Vice President: Philip Behney
Member-at-Large Dan Nelson Treasurer: Ellie Czarnowski
Secretary: John L. Giulietti,
President Dane A. Rochelle then solicited additional candidates
from the floor. Hearing none, the above proposed candidates
were approved by acclamation by members.
Bill Rutherford presented out-going President Dane A. Rochelle
a blue duffle-ditty bag with the TSCA logo.
Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Ellie
Czarnowski reported a balance of $5,150.86 and submitted a
written treasurer’s report. (copy attached) A $100 donation
was accepted from Sid Whalen.
Old Business: Bill Rutherford reported that
the Bill Armitage’s Mellonseed needed to be brought
into Building 36 during 2019. John L. Giulietti reported that
his 19-foot “Stretched Gull” would leave by New
Years Day. Philip Behney reported various Chapter boats needed
repair in Building 36 in Spring, 2019.
New Business: Philip Behney proposed that
the December 22nd, 2018 Full Moon row from Mystic at 8 AM
weather permitting and reminded that USCG requires approved
personal flotation devices must be worn.
Club Activities: A discussion ensued regarding
a January 21-22nd, 2019 lunar total eclipse row, weather permitting.
Presentation: Meeting was adjourned by acclamation
after which Ben Ellcome of the Mystic Seaport Sail Program
gave a presentation regarding the one-design class sailing
small craft during the past 75 years and the on-going student
building class program repair/reproducing of some 11
one-design class boats, including the 9-foot Dyer Dow.
